DUBAI – More than 5,000 participants descended on Hatta Dam this weekend as Dubai Stand Up Paddle 2025, presented by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), delivered two spectacular days of outdoor adventure and community spirit.

From sunrise to sunset, paddlers and kayakers filled the turquoise waters surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Hajar Mountains, marking the third edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge’s (DFC) flagship outdoor event – and its biggest yet.

Set against Hatta’s breathtaking landscape, participants embraced the Challenge’s ‘Find Your 30’ mission, combining fitness and nature in equal measure. With its new two-day format, the event attracted both first-time paddlers and returning enthusiasts, transforming Hatta Dam into a vibrant hub of wellness, activity and family fun.

Outdoor escapes

Many used the extended format as an opportunity to enjoy a weekend retreat, pairing their Stand Up Paddle sessions with Hatta’s scenic hiking trails, dining venues, and mountain experiences. Families and groups turned the event into a complete escape – a refreshing blend of exercise and exploration away from the city..

Free SUP training sessions ran throughout both days, open to all ages and skill levels. Participants were provided with safety briefings and essential equipment – including boards, paddles and life jackets – ensuring confidence and safety on the water.

From complete beginners to seasoned paddlers, everyone had the chance to test their balance and stamina against the calm mountain waters.

Fitness meets mindfulness

Beyond the paddling action, registered participants also enjoyed complimentary kayaking sessions throughout the weekend. As the sun dipped behind the mountains each evening, the tempo softened into tranquil sunset yoga sessions. Guided by professional instructors, these 30-minute floating classes combined physical movement with mindfulness – the perfect way to unwind and reflect amid Hatta’s natural serenity.

The experience extended to dry land too, with a lively entertainment zone keeping energy levels high across both days. A giant inflatable duck became the event’s unofficial mascot and a favourite photo stop, while families were treated to free popcorn served in DFC-branded cones, a bouncy castle for children, and a face-painting station that drew both kids and adults.

Community celebration

With F&B vendors offering cooling refreshments and ice lollies, the event evolved into a full-fledged weekend celebration. The combination of fitness, fun and relaxation made Dubai Stand Up Paddle one of the most engaging community activations of the DFC calendar.

Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, said: “The response to Dubai Stand Up Paddle, presented by RTA, has been phenomenal. Expanding to two days was the right decision, allowing even more people to experience this unique combination of fitness, nature, and community. Hatta Dam continues to highlight the UAE’s natural beauty and reinforce our commitment to accessible, outdoor fitness experiences.”

Echoing the sentiment, Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), added: “This weekend at Hatta Dam showcased something truly special — participants didn’t just complete a workout, they created lasting memories with friends and family. The expanded format allowed us to welcome more people to this experience, and the enthusiasm we witnessed reinforces how outdoor fitness brings communities together.”
